R. Scott Oswald Leads Seminar on Employment Law

Posted on October 16, 2013

R. Scott Oswald, managing principal of The Employment Law Group® law firm, led a District of Columbia Bar seminar on recent trends in employment law.

Mr. Oswald acted as chair and moderator for Changing Currents in Employment Law 2013, an evening of panels on topics including new whistleblower protections and employees’ use of social media. The event was part of the D.C. Bar’s Continuing Legal Education program, which helps more than 7,000 attorneys each year to stay up-to-date on changes in the law.

Leading employment attorneys from firms including Jackson LewisKator, Parks & Weiser, and Dickstein Shapiro presented updates on five areas:

  • Trade secret litigation
  • Forced arbitration clauses in employment contracts
  • Limits on employees’ use of social media—and on employers’ rights to monitor or restrict such use
  • New protections for whistleblowers under the False Claims Act, the Affordable Care Act, and the 2013 National Defense Authorization Act
  • Enforcement trends at the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission

The event took place on October 15, 2013, at the D.C. Bar Conference Center in Washington, DC.
