Law360, New York (July 18, 2013, 1:24 PM ET) — President Barack Obama has recently signed important whistleblower protections for federal and private employees. On Nov. 27, 2012, the president signed the Whistleblower Protection Enhancement Act, which went into effect on Dec. 27, 2012. On Jan. 2, 2013, President Obama signed the National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2013, which contains new whistleblower protections that went into effect on July 1, 2013.
The WPEA expands the whistleblower protections for federal employees in several important ways. First, for two years, the WPEA removes exclusive jurisdiction over federal employee whistleblower appeals from Federal Circuit.
